Shannon Notes.
— ♦ ■ IBy our llesident Representative.] SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A special meeting of the school committee was held on Monday evefltng, the chairman, Mr J. Richardson, prefciding. Tlie chairman explained that the meeting had been called to ooneider a letter from the Education Board with reference to the asphalting of the •school grounds. The letter stated that the tender of Mr Channinge, of Levin, has been accepted, and aeked the committee to forward the £29 collected in Shannon , for the. purpose. Some discussion ensued, some of the members being of opinion that the Board should have informed, the committee of the amount of the accepted tender. Mr -Merwood proposed that the £29 be forwarded to the Board with the reI quest. that they inform the committee [ of the amount of the accepted tender. .Mr Hillson seconded the motion which ■was carried. It was decided that Miss Hughes be granted permissioin to attend the classes for instruction in agricultural .science. After some farther discussion the meeting adjourned, The members of the Bowling Olub are busy just now, in conjunction with the caretaker (Mr Hensman) in improving the green. They are top dressing it and devoting a deal of time and trouble in order to have it in good order for next season. One of my friends suggests that it would be better-if tho war news posted up at the post office were type-written. This is the rule in many other places, and the type-writing is much easier to read than the ordinary pen and ink.
