«. 1_ INQUEST TYT O'iAKI. An . inquiry into the circumetanrsj connected with the tteath of Wy%r«ut Olpheit, was held at Otaki Tjy the coronier (.Mr W. C. Nation). Olphert\w.ae found dead in Otaki river close to the residence of Mr F. J. KyrUr, ol Pahiko. / The evidence showed that d«e*M.%tA wae a school teacher on ivapiti Island. that he came to Parapar»umu on the morning of Tuesday last and took traia for Otaki. He visited Mr Ryder mud « took his two little boye to fee tewn for a walk. There lie had come drink, not much, and on the way back he toli « the children to go on«home and lie wfonkl follow. He fell at the foot of , a, ime.ll cutting and sat there. " The children went home, but ho did not follow, and -Mr and Mrs Ryder in the early evening went to search for them, tut found no trace. Next morning the M&rcfc was resumed and still with no reeult, until late- in the day wlieti the body was found in a hole where there Trie k depth of water. There w»b no erid«ac« to show how deceased got into the water. He evidently took a pats leading along by the river bank instead of up the eloping path to Mr Ryder's house. Deceased wae 70 yean ef age. and probably missed the way ia the darkness and etumbled into t"hm' water-hole. The coroner entered np r a verdict of "found drowned": hew" deceased got into the water there waf ' no evidence to ehow. Lately he had been teaching. #t a. private native school at Kapiti I«Un<j Deceased was born in BallycaaiM, County Donegal, Ireland, where hie father, Sir J. Olphert, was Oounty Lieutenant. At one time deceased wa* ap officer in' the British Army, to the 14th Regiment. He left his chip laet ye*r -awj went to England, where he joined the, ' Navy an dis now serving on «n *oxiliar* cruieer.
