The meeiing was lor the purpose of convide.-'ng steps to be taken to a.si-t 111 tho Wellington Carnival, to be nehi ear'y next month under the auspices of the \rw Zealand Patriotic Socierv. Apologies were receif-ed from Mo' dames Cork, France, Glassford. Rixon. V. Hitchings and Miss Bartholomew. Tho Mayoress presided and explained Ihe object of the meoti.ig. It was decided at the previous eiect >::g to tal-.e part iu the carnival and it meant a lot of -work. She did not think they h\d sufficient time to cover U'e Manr>v;.iii district, which would inslud' Manaivatu and Foxton. They ha I oiiiy al'n't ihree weeks to devote to :ho w.->:K. Mayor. Mr B. R. of.ivlr-n.ir advised them to put their ss.ifXQteAtic.-r. oil ]>apcr and submit tile into the pnbiic meeting at night (last n : ghi.,'. 11, li rther advised them to cn'i-i!'. the local authorities in the co..i L -s limn >hout tlie country with a view to getting their assistance for tile carnival. He advised a personal canvas of those centres, and then leave the organisation in the hands of the local authorities The reason Levin committee chose the district candidate for the "Queen of the Carnival" was because it was requested specially hv the Wellitiji ton executive to nominate a candidate for the district and the nominations closed within- a' few days of receiving this request and they had no time to consult other districts. The committee also should seek the co-operation of the Maoris, and should divide the -whole district into suitable divisions and canvass it thoroughly. Hp considered that two honorary secretaries, a lady and a gentleman, should be appointed. Levin and district immediately surrounding was divided into sections allotted to the ladies present, and these districts will bo canvassed thoroughly for gifts of produce, etc. The districts were arranged as follows: Koputaroa. Kiinborley and Gladstone roads to railway line, Mrs Adkin and Prouse: Arapaepae road (to the hills, but not to f'oxton road) Mrs Corringo ; Weraroa. bounded by Mako Mako nr-d to Mabel street and along the latter street to the Beach road and then all the Village Settlement as far as Buller road, the whole lot bounded mi the oast by the main county road. Mesdames Palk, AValker. Whi!:!■<-■ r and Miss Bowen ; the block bounded by the Beach road east as far as Mabel-Street, along the latter to MaKo Mako road and thence to (but not including) Ox-ford-street and right to Queen-street and Horowheima road to the lake. Miss Bartholomew; the block contained within tho Horowlienua. Tiro Tiro and Weraroa roads and King's Drive. Mrs Maekenz ; « and Miss Davies: HorowheliiKi lake district, Mrs B. i{. Gardener; he block from Weraroa-road along Queen-street to (but not including) Ox-ford-street and back to Kawiu road. Mrs H. H. Cork; Oxford-street (both sides from Malco Mako road to Kawiu road, Mrs Lancaster and Mrs France; Cambridge-street (both sides from end to end). Miss Johnson : Queen-street to Bartholomew road and back to Kawiu road, Mrs Sigley ; from Cambridge street to Queenswood road and along to Bath-st.. Mesdanie.s Plaster and Parsons; from Quc-enwood-roati along Queen street to Bartholomew" road back to Mako Mako road to (he railway line. Miss Campbell. Miss J, MoTsegg's colours, as candidate for Ihe "Queen ol t Carnival'' competition, will be blue and silver. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
