Wellington Queen Carnival

jCXTKXSLON OF NOMINATION DATE. The date for tlie closing of nominations lor the Carnival yueen of Wellington has been extended to Tuesday. .May 11. This has been decided u]>on at the urgent request oT the various committee connected with the election, in order to allow more time for the selection of the candidates. The New Zealand Patriotic Society, who are conducting the Carnival, anticipate that a score of ladies will be forthcoming to contest the election, which shoii'l create a good deal of ' interest throughout the city and province. Tt should only be necessary to mention the objects for wnieh the Carnival is being arranged, in order to secure the interest and active support of every citizen. Tts purpose is to raise, funds for the establishment of a Base Hospital at the Trenfham Encampment, and to provide a fund lor the assistance of New Zealnndevß -who are incapacitated while on active service, and for the support of Ehe dependents of those wiiose lives are sacrificed in defence of the Empire. The list of casualties which has already come to hand emphasises the urgency of thie effort. Tt is the plain duty of all citizens to "stand by" the men who have left their homes and loved oiies to fight our battles fn a foreign land, ft is for us to help the wounded, make provision for those wlio become disabled, and to give necessary assistance to bereaved parents, wives an 3 children. The coming Carnival provides an opportunity for all who are willing to help. The fiist requirement is the nomination of candidates to contest the election of a "Queen." It is confidently hoped that those ladies who are approached for this purpose will readily consent and foel the honour of being enabled to give great assistance to a charitable cause. Tf the , people ot tfellington province enter heartlTy into the spirit of the Carnival and keep ite purposes in view, then it will Tie an assured success, and a handsome sum will be raised for the asistance of "Our Brave Boys."
