LEVIN Horticultural Society

SHOW ON THE 28th AND 29th I APRIL. A meeting of the committee of the ? Levin Horticultural Society was held in the Council Chambers last evening, Mrs Gardener, the president, in the 1 chair, and there was a good attend- ? ance. Tile secretary, Mr W. J. Read- 1 ing. reported that the following judges 3 had accepted appointment:— Fruit, Mr I Horton : farm section, Mr D. Judd ; cut blooms and pot plants, .Mr A. J. Shail- q or; decorative. Miss Murray: needlework. Mrs Dr Huthwaite; paintings, Mr« W. H. Field; cookery. Mr Dustiu. J Class stewards in the various'sections «ere appointed, and arrangements wore made for the detail work of the show. Mr J. C. Neill suggest- ■" ed that the farm exhibit should be bet- s ter placed than at the last show. A a small committee was appointed to assist the secretary in h.eating the various sections. The members for the district was requested to ask the Prime Minister or some other member of the Ministry to open the show, Mr Field having inti- C mated that he, with Mrs Field, will be ' pleased to be present. ( ' T 1 "? arrangements made are now well ' forward and point to flie prospect of a 1 jrood show .especially if the weather -' proves good. The committee has decided to devote any surplus over from the show to the Belgian ffelief Fund and any effort on behalf of the show will both benefit the local institution and the unfortunate people of the stricken land of Belgium. -1

The Century Hail was opened again last night for the entertainment ot the troopers, and there was a good crowd present. The V ..U.C'.A. builtliug adjoining lias been thrown open for the troopers lor letter writing, etc. .From Kdi'ii. Auckland, tlie Chronicle is in 'receipt of a copy of the The Eden Gazette.
