Levin Land Domain

Another cliapter was added to the discussions aboii't the Levin Domain last night at the Levin iioi-ough Coiwicils meeting. 'j'lie matter was intraduced by Councillor Dempsoy who stated that he had boon informed by a member of the Hoard that the Horowhenua A. and P. Society had not abandoned it.s effort* to have the domain sold. If Levin people did not keep awake to the business the domain would be lost. The Horowhenna A. and P .Society was a private body and had no right to rob the public of a park to help themselves. If the public, lost the domain it would b' l lost for ever. He had lieen told that all the domains—with the exception of the Land Domain (an area of .some 40 acres between the lake and Mr Kirkcaldie'fi homestead, and including the old .racecourse reserve) round Levin would be handed over to the Borough Council, but the Government intended to sanction tIVP sale of the Lake Domain, hand over the proceeds tn the Horowhenna A. and P. Association. and invest the money in tlie ociety's own name. It would be a sorry thing if this was done and the Connt.i! should take steps to see that it >vas not lost to the people. Oinncillor France said that the tutter should he brought under the notice of the Hon. H. D. Bell on Friday. Tt would be a crime and an injustice if Iho domain was sold. Tf the domain was vested in the Borough Council it would be safe. The Mayor did not think that the Government would hand over the domain to a private society; the public i f Levin would not stand it, and he did not think the Horowhonua A. and P. Society would be successful in its purpose. It wn.s decided that a deputation ol the Mayor and Councillors wait on the Hon. H. D. Bell to-morrow (Friday), and protest against the suggestion that the domain be sold.
