Levin Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Levin Borough Council was held iu the Council Chambers last evening. There were present: The 51 ay or (Mr B. R. Gardener), Councillors E. SLancaster, H. B France, R. Prouse, M. Eosella, A. Dempsey, D. W. Matheson and: D. S. Mackenzie. A letter was received from the Mayor ol Wellington (Mr J". P- Luke) suggesting that the council co-operates in the formation of a central body tor the control of the amounts raised for the Belgian Relief Fund, and other war funds with a view to earning the overnment subsidy of £ for £ up to .£SOOO per month. A circular explaining the proposals in detail also was received from the Minister of Finance. The Mayor moved that the proposals of the Mayor. of Wellington and the Minister'of Finance in connection with the Belgian Relief Fund and other war funds be endorsed by this Council." He considered it an excellent idea, and it was a pity that a central body was not set up at the commencement. The amounts raised in the Jflstrict had been sent down to Wellington in dribs -nd drabs, and no one knew the total of Horowhenua's contributions; this was still going on. If the amount was sent through a central body those who raised it would still get the full credit for it. He advocated the same idea at the first, and he lioped the Council would endorse it. Councillor Dempsey said he would like to see more contributions from those who were making money out of the war—the cost fall on the shoulders of those better able to bear it. Councillor Mackenzie seconded the motion and it was agreed to. GAS MANAGER'S REPORT.
