At the Levin Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr F. C. Remington. J.P., two men were charged by the police with having been drunk in Oxford street on Thursday evening. Both were first offenders, and one (a Maori) pleaded guilty and was fined ss. The other, a well-known citizen, pleaded not guilty. He was defended hv Mr Merton. After hearing the evidence tendered by the police. Mr Remington considered the charge proved, and lined defendant 56, and ordered him to pay witness's expenses. 6s.
