Sacred Concert

It is well that people do not realise what they miss else there would be much regret among those who missed the sacred concert in the Presbyterian Church last evening. The lengthy programme—fifteen items—was a highclass one, and its rendition was fine. The organ music played by Mr J. P. White, including Beethoven's Funeral March, enabled him to bring out the full tonal qualities of the organ, and display his exceptional gifts as an organist. He was ably seconded by Mrs Nation, and the organ duets were x>f more than ordinary merit. In the vocal items, Mr White was heard to great advantage in "Crossing the Bar," "Those Faithless Men." and in the duet "The Day is Done'' (with Miss Johnson). The latter's singing of a selected solo was on the same high standard as the performance of the rest of the programme. All the beauties of melody in "Chanson Triste" and ".Squire's Prayer" were developed f ully on the 'cello by Miss B. Remington. Beethoven's "Hymn to Creation" and "Love not the World" were finely sung by Miss C. Remington. The Misses Remington also gave a good performance in the duet, "Divine Light." The organ accompaniments were played b.v Mr White and Mrs Nation.
