The Tramway Union passed a resolution expressing the opinion that the Government is showing lamentable weakness in permitting Hie public to be exploited in regard to the high prices of foodstuffs, and especially in allowing the "Millers' Association to charge £17 ltte per ton tor flour milled from State wheat, which was sold to inillers to enable them to sell flour at £14 10s.

At the annual session or the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows of New Zealand, the report stated that there were now 68 Grand Lodges and 18,153 subordinate lodges with a total membership qf 2,167,055. In a letter to the Manawatu Standard, covering the cheque, Mr McHardy says that as a producer and one who is deriving an increased revenue from the efforts of those who are dying fighting or enduring hardships and torture and having thier country laid waste and homos destroyed, it is his duty to return something to "those who are so .nobly defending our existence, who suffer or are wounded or maimed, destitute or in need of immediate care and attention and assistance to meet the increasesd price of produce.
