£fxb press association.] THE SOLDIERS' RETURN. Duneclin, This Day. Of the .eturned troopers from Egypt ten who deserted at Albany we're sent north this morning. Prior to their departure, some excitement was caused by one member trying to make his escape from the Central Battery. He was caught in a hotel. The other two members who were brought back on account of misconduct in Egypt have been 'discharged, as they had received punishment for their offence by tho military authorities in Egypt. Of the twenty-two invalided soldiers who were admitted to the Dunedin Hospital, five hare been discharged from the institution as totally recovered. These will be sent home on leave. Thirteen are still detained in the hospital and one sent for special treatment. None of the cases are associated with diseases that occasion much talk. THE SAMOAN GARRISON. Auckland, This Day. All reports state that the Samoan garrison will return shortly. After their arrival a relief force will he dispatched. Some leave will be given to the 3 men on return and then they will proceed to Wellington to join the Fifth Contingent. COST OF~¥ooSsTUFFS. Dunedin, This Day. The Port Chalmers Council agreed to support the Runanga Borough Council's protest regarding the increased price of foodstuffs and to seek the co-operation of the member for the district with a view to urging the Government to secure relief. Christchurch, This Day. The City Council last night discussed the rise in food prices. Councillor Burgoyne, in moving a resolution of protest against the recent big advance, said there wore men in this country acting in a traitorous way by exploiting the public. If he had his way they would be all arrested and shot. Other councillors spoke in a similar strain and the resolution was carried.
