Grow Wheat.
BOARD OF AGRIC'ULTVi{ R S APPEAL.
[per PRESS association..!
Wellington, This Day
Tlie Board of A griculture would iiko to remind farmers of the grea- necessity in the interests ot the Empire, that the wheat areas should le !ari>!y augmented to ensure the crop or' wheat ii. the coming season being suHicieut to feed the people of New tfo.ilaml ai d leave enough for seed for tlie following season. At least 210,000 ams will be required to lie sown. The area in wheat during the present season lias been 18D.OOO acres, so that •50.000 acres more will he re-j rred to he sown in the coming season to ensure sufficient wheat for the Dominion's use. A less area woultl probably mean that we would have to buy outside, and from other countries possibly less favoured than ourselves. As the restriction as to price has been taken off by the Government there is every reason to think that the price will be remunerative. The Board would also like to suggests to tliose who intend to sow wheat 'in the coming season that they should procure seed grown in tlie Dominion, as imported seed wheat requires considerable time to acclimatise, and generally gives unsatisfactory yields the first season. Tlie Board would caution farmers, however, that the above area should not be deducted from the area usually devoted to oats Tf this is done the oats and chaff grown will not be sufficient.
