The Chronicle PUBLISHED DAILY. LEVIN. MONDAY, MARCH 6, 1915. A MOTOR CYCLISTS' CORPS.
A hint for motor cyclists of Horowlienua County is contained in a noto sent to us by the Dunlop Rubber Compandor Australasia. Possibly a movement will be initiated in this county to form a volunteer corps of motor cyclists, in readiness for home defence. A good opportunity for doing their duty would be afforded by such a corps to a number of men whose home ties and duties prevent them from volunteering for active service abroad. Our note mentions that ji section of the motor cyclists of New South Wales are taking up a
movement to organise a military corps of motor cyclists. The idea is an excellent one, for even on the rough roads that abound in this country, it is really wonderful what can be accomplished n the up-to-date cycle. The value of a motor cyclist for despatch work has been well demonstrated in the European war, and coming nearer home we liavo the fine record established by motor cyclists in the 1912 Dunlop relay despatch ride from Adelaide to Sydney, i\ hen despite adverse weather oonditions a message from capital t ocapital —a distance of 1138 miles—in 51 hours 50 minutes.
