The state of the labour market in Palmerston is entirely satisfactory, said a I'aimerston labour agent, in reply f o a Times reporter's enquiry yesterday. The boom in the building trade is absorbing the surplus of unskilled labour, and painters, carpenters and other tradesmen are apparently having no difficulty in securing employment. ''1 consider," he said, "that the prospect for the winter, as far as Palmerston is concerned is very promising." The work of exploding the mines washed up on the Dutch coast has devolved on Lieutenant Canters and men of the Amsterdam torpedo station. Of 83 mines on which reports so far have been made by Lieut. Cantere, 70 were of .English origin, or nationality, as it is expressed; four were French and eight were .Dutch, while the remaining one could not be identified. These figures show that the task of the minedes'troyers has not been a pleasant one. Being hit by fragments of tho shell was a chance the men took every time (hey attempted the disablement of an English mine.
