Eggs.—A strong market continues x> prevail for both fresh and preserved eggs, due to supplies 'being insufficient for the requirements of the market. Best fresh are selling at" Is 8d to Is 9d with preserved at Is 5d per dozen. Poultry.—Demand continues fairly good for all descriptioas of poultry. Boosters, prime young, 4s to 4s 6d pair, fair 3s to 3s 6d; liens, good heavy 3s to 3s 6d; others 2s 9d; ducks, 4s 6d to 6s 6d pair, according to quality; turkey gobblers 18s to 20s pair; hens 8s to 10s.
CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKETS. v [PHR PREBB ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Feb. 19. During the last few days farmers have been offering wheat freely and a considerable quantity has changed hands, the millers still being Iree buyers. Growere have been very firm in holding out for their own prices, ajid the rates paid show little advance over
last week". Hunters ana tuscans are now selling at 6s 7d to 6s 7*d and pearl at 6s 8d to 6s 9d at country stations, highest prices being given at near stations. The wheat offering is mostly very prime, but a few badly smutted Samples have also come forward, *nd are only fit for fowl feed. Oats are sttn in keen demand, and are selling at 3s Gd to 3s 7d for Gaptons and. >p to at" country stations for Algerians. The latter, whTch are scarce, are mostly wanted for seed for the tforth Island. Oateheaf chaff is difficult to obtain and £o is now being given for prompt delivery. Barley is not so readily saleable as oate and wheat, but muoh of the orop has now changed hands. There is not a large amount of business being done in potatoes, and growers are sot inclined to sell forward. No businaa ! is yet reported in Pennisula ccoksfoot, Sat some seed off the plains has been solff" at 6Jd and 7d.
Messrs Abraham and William* report haying held a most successful clearing sale on Wednesday on behalf of G. Tuliy, Esq., of Waikanae. The sheep came forward in excellent order and consisting mainly of fresh-conditioned young ewes. Bidding on the various lots was very animated and competition keen. Prices realised were as follow*: 2-tooth ewes 18s Bd, 4-tcoth ewes 18a 7d, 6-tooth ewes 18s Id, 4-year ewe* } 7g 7d, cull ewes 14s sd, 2-tooth wethere 16s 9d, ewe lambs 10s Id, wofEer lambs 10s 23, small 2-tooth 12s Bd, aged rama 13s 6d to 19s; hack £25, agecMiacks £2 15s to £4 10s, light draughts £17 to j £20. Sundries made their full value.
