COMMITTEE'S REPORT.

The following report of the Library Committee of the Borough Council was silb'mitted to the meeting of the Council on Monday evening:—

The committee begs to report having met since the previous council meeting :111a having dealt with various matters affecting the routine work of the Library. An application lias been ma<te, as in former years, for a share of the £4000 Government subsidy winch is divided amongst the variojs libraries of the Dominion. In furnishing particulars for the subsidy : t was shown that 490 volumes had been a filled t-o the Library during the year, and that 12,701 volumes had been taken out from the lending department during the same period. It was decided to fix the lunch-hour ior the assistant librarian from one to two o'clock (luring which time the lending department will bo closed. The whole question of library hours was discussed but tiie committee do not at present recommend any further alteration. An authors' catalogue is provided in the library, biit as yet. no titles catalogue lias been compiled. The committee chinks that it is desirable to have i cities catalogue, hut decided that the work should stand over until after the close of the financial year.
