R we , and held in the J>ruids' Hall on Friday night, was, considering that tliis is not the best time of the year for dancing, a success. Everything had been done to ensure that visitors woulj enjoy themselves and good music "was played by Mrs Fairs (piano) and Mr Rose (acoordeon). Everyone gave their services free, and it is expected that when accounts are finally squared np close on £3 will be available for the above funds. At the Horowhonua County Council's meeting on Saturday the straker waggon was brought into the limelight til lough a letter recived from the Booth McDonald Company, enquiring its price, etc. The County Clerk had forwarded all particulars and the price as £I'>o. One Councillor considered the price too liigli ; it frightened intending purchasers. Another councillor said it should be got rid of at any price, or else they should dig a hole and bury it. Yet another councillor arose and wanted to know why the straker waggon was valued at £250 in the County's assets. He considered that it should be sold for £50. Then it was discovered that price quoted by the County Clerk was taken from a resolution passed by the Council Mimo time ago and steps were taken to give the County Clerk more freedom in the matter.
