A CHARGE OF BRIBERY REFUTED

- In the Assembly the Hon. D. Hall tabled papers dealing with the allegation that £1000 had been paid to Ministers in connection with the passage of the Wheat Acquisition Bill. The police enquiries disclosed that a commission agent and another, both largely interested in wheat contracts, engaged the service of a Sydney solicitor with a view to securing the cancellation of these contracts, promising a payment of £1000 for his professional services. The sum of £360 of this was paid. The papers completely exonerated Ministers and members of Parliament.
