THE ITALIAN EARTHQUAKE

The torribl© distress occasioned by the xccent earthquake in italy in which 82,000 perished and IS towns and villages were destroyed, calls for assistance from all quarters. A movement is on foot in Wellington to hold) a conceit in the Town Hall and the programme will be contributed by the leading talent .in Wellington. The Garibaldi executive at Wellington have opened subscription lists, and as the object is a deserving one—though the many appeals of late on behalf of the sufferers by the war have drawn heavily upon the pockets of the public—we feel sure that there will be a response among all nationalities to the appeal being made for the Italians who have been impoverished by the earthquake. Subscriptioti lists are lying at Mrs Fosella's dressmaking establishment, the Chronicle office and Mr D. Smart's. The smallest amount will be thankfully acknowledged.
