Between 3000 and 4000 men took part, comprising the whole of the third, fourth and fifth reinforcements and the Samoan relief force. The men are a likely-looking lot. well tanned by tile open air life, and swing along with an ease that denoted that the military training they had undergone is Beginning to tell its tale. As they paraded past the stands and enclosures there was a good deal of cheering, and admiration was generally expressed at their business-like 'bearing. They were headed by the camp band play martial music, and • t. the rear of the procession was the Army Service Corps, and other units. ITiis is the first and only opportunity afforded of seeing tho men altogether. The troops were the guests of the Wellington Racing Olu|> at ■ luncheon whose hospitality was much appreciated.

J W.R.O. SUMMER MEETING. AVellington, This Day. The AVellington Racing Club's summer meeting opened to-day in beautifhl weather. There is a large attendance and course in good order. Results :— Trentham Welter. -Jem 1, Black-all 2, Prince Laddo 3. All started. Killaloo led at the start followed by ltoiimania. Ooming round the bend the field bunched, then Jem drew to the front and won easily by two lengths. A length separated the second and third horses. . Time, lmin 43 3-5 horses.

NAPIER'S HARBOUR. Napier, This Day. The annual report of tho chairman of tho Harbour Board states that every revenue department shows an increase. Tho revenue for 1914, exclusive of rates, was £50,51)9 lis 4d or £4159 l(3s 6d ahead of 1913, and £3273 10s 8d greater that 1913 which previously held the record. Tho Board's new dredge for the construction of the East Coast railway embankmen commences work next week, and the Board proposes shortly to seek the sanction of the ratepayers for a £30,000 loan for the construction of an inner harbour.

THE BUSH FIRES ON THE EAST COAST. Dannevirke, This Day. Fires are still raging in the coastal districts, but the climatic conditions are now more favourable for coping with them.
