HOROWHENUA FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY MEETING. Tlio ordinary monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Fruitgrowers' Association was held in Mr D. Smart's roonns last evening. There were present: Messrs H. Blackburn (chairman), H. Newport, J. C. Neill, D. Smart and M. Fosella. The Association decided to give up all idea of forwarding any exhibits to the Panama Exhibition. After such an unfavourable spiiug the task of getting an exhibit would be a difficult one. It was unanimously decided on the motion of Mr Neill, seconded by Mr Newport to forward a letter to the Orchard Division of the Department of Agriculture that while regretting the loss of Mr G. Stratford's services tho Association is pleased to know that his transfer means promotion, and the Association desires to record its application of the services given by Mr Stratford while stationed in this district. A letter on somewhat similar lines also will be forwarded to Mr Stratford. A letter from the Department of Agriculture stated that it was giving a guarantee of Id per lb on all fruit exported to new markets dining the coming season. The letter was received. hi reply to a communication from Air J. Drysdsile. manager of the Experimental Farm, "VVoraroa, inviting the Association to increase its visits to the Farm orchard, it was decided on the 'motion of Mr Neill. seconded by Mr Blackburn, to thank Mr Drysd'ale for his invitation and l accept it as soon as arrangements can be made. Action was deferred in connection with a letter from the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association referring to the proposal to make a levy of so much pel' acre on orchards. The next meeting will bo the annual meeting.
