SIR OLIVER LODGE

A REMARKABLE DECLARATION

London, Nov. 22

Sir Oliver Lodge, president of t,l*j Society for Psychical Research, and one of the loading aoid most prominent ol English scientists, formerly president ol the Society for the Advancement of Science, in a lecture ill Browning Hall, "Walworth, made an impressive declaration of knowledge of continued life in spirit realms, stating his positive and absolute conviction of future existence, asserting that he has conversed with friends whom the world calls dead. "Once you realise that consciousness is something outside of t-lio mechanism I it makes use of," Sir Oliver said, "you realise that the survival of existence is the simplest thing. "It is unreasonable tliat the soul should jump out of existence when the body is destroyed. Wo ourselves are not limited to the few years that we have lived on earth. Ave shall go on without jit; we certainly pha.ll continue to exist; wo certainly shall survive. "Why do I say that? 1 say it oil definite scientific grounds; ] say it because I know that certain friends of mine still exist because 1 have talked to them. Cummiinidation is possible but one must obey the hnvs to find out- • the conditions. Ido not say it is easy bint I say it is possible, and I have conversed with them as 1 could converse with anyone in the audience

"Being. scientific men, they have given proof that it is real, not an 'mperfroiiatiorii not something emanating from myself. They have givon definite proofs, mm lie of which are being published. Many are being withheld lor a time, but will be published later.

"I tell you it is so with all the strength of conviction that I can muster—that it is so that we do pensist; that people do still take an interest in things that are going on; that they still help us and know more about things than we do, and that they arc able from time to time to communicate with us.

"I know that man is surrounded by other intelligences. If you once step beyond man there is no limit until you come to the Infinite Intelligence himself. Onoe haying gone "beyond man you go on and must go on until vo.u come to God.

"But it is no strange land to which 1 urn leading you, the cosmos. We hero on this planet are limited in certain ways and blind to nur.i that is going on, but I tell son we are surrounded by beings worEing with lis, co-operating, helping—such as people in visions hare had some pcroept.ion of That which religion tells us f.a:nts and angels are, and that the iVliaster himself is helping us is, I believe, literally true.
