Tuition in piano and theory will be resumed by Miss Fitzherbert this week. She will be at Levin next Friday and at Manakuu next Saturday.

The points awarded by the judge gave victory to Shannon by five points. .Kingston Mines, Peoria County, Illinois, has "elected its first woman mayor in the person of Mrs Kate York, who for the last 25 years has been successfully engaged in a local general mercantile business. A Woodville resident (says an exchange) created a sensation in town on Saturday. His wife having left him, he went to her place of residence, and, having been refused admission, pointed a revolver at himself. He was grappled with, and, getting away, rusbed into a woodshed. Presently a shot was fired, and the man was seen to fall. A minute later another shot was heard, and then it was thought advisable to send for the police.
