THE GODLEY CUP
(To the Editor;. Sir , —According to Hie Pal merston Standard the defence au
thorities intend holding the above cup until they make further enquiries. What I want to know is why were not the enquiries made long ago, and on whose au-
thority is the cup being exhibited in a draper's window m Levin, when General Hamilton in Pal-
merston handed it over to be given to Cadet Rose, the winner of the competition. Seems to me there is something at the back of
the whole business. If defence people make Blunders over a shooting competition, they can hardly expect the lads to respect them, and these days discipline is founded on respect. Also, judging by this cup business, it seems to me that—as with our forefathers—our safety will depend mostly on the bravery of.tlie soldiers; some officers wont count much in our favour. —Yours, etc. JUSTICE.
