hen the referee applied the : uKiicnltKthe trouble between the j \\ anderers Weraroa on the | Levm recreation ground on SatI urday things blazed up suddenly, and the Wanderers pushed Weraroa into a hot corner bright irrl early. In their struggle 1 o trot out they bumped against the rules I and the TV anderers were awarded a- free kick. N. Winiata had a successful shot at the goal. With blistered feelings Weraroa charged fiercely, and for a while things burned merrily in the centre. It was too warm for the TVanderers and they were forced back into their own half. Play became mixed, the rules of the appearing to be forgotten in-' the smoke and steam, and the call of the referee's whistle was<frequent. I layers and spectators, were growing excited, and things did not promise well, till tne latter were moved back to the fence, when everyone steadied down. Weraroa Kept the trouble in the Wanderers half ,and from a mark by Kennedy, Hopa tried for a goal, but failed. By hard work the Wanderers got out of the trouble and attacked, but a free kick at goal failed. utes or so, from marks or free kicks, had four tries at the goal, but all failed. Play came back to the centre, but the Wanderers had to retreat, and later it took strenuous work on their part to yet. play into the Weraroa half. Here they were awarded a free kick, but failed to get a goal. The Wanderers could not keep the advantage they gained, and v. ore soon again on the defensive. J*, ow and then they made fierce rallies, which always ended in liieir being forced back again by : lie Weraroa forwards. The last charge made by the latter was a good one and came near to sucretfs, the Wanderers managing to Mop ihem near the line. It was a hard game, with little or no open play. The.Wanderers knowledge of the game stood to iiiem well. Les McDonald, in tile backs, played a splendid game, 'lis line kicking was very good. X. Winiata, Lewer, T. McDonald ;«lso played well. In the forwards Hilson, Hutchens, Close
;:nd W. Winiata played a fine ?ame. For Weraroa Hopa .and Ji. Broughton (the latter especially) played well in the backs, vrlnle in the * forwards Webb, Broughton, Dalziell and Kennedy did the bulk of tile work, and did it well. Weraroa was weak in the backs. When they train ihem lip a bit there will be a heap trouble for the teams that meet Weraroa. The next match between these two teams will be worth watching, and everyone should keep sixpence aside for the purpoie.
