EVENTS IN SHANNON
(Jjy our Resident Representative) BAZAAR AT TOKOMARU. . . / A fancy fair in aid oi the funds of I lie Church of was opened in the public hall aWTokoniaru on Wednesday afternoon. A contingent of visitors from Shannon went by the 2 p.m. train. Amongst those were the Yen. Archdeacon C'oniins and Mis Comins, and the Hcv. C. I'aJiner. The stalls were prettily decorated with bunting, ;ind were preside*! over bv the undermentioned ladies: Lolly stall, blisses Ucntlia Ruth Kelly and Miss Flo. Stansell; fancy stall, Mrs Whyte and Miss G. Kelly :p];iin and work stall, Mrs Parr: refreshment stall, .Mrs Adams and Miss Teursley. Amongst the objects of interest to be seen were two drawing's in crayon by a local artist. An "Aunt Sally" also came in for a share of patronage. There was also •\w exhibition of cookery and home industries for which prizes were awarded. The bazaar is open again on Thursday. HOCKEY. The hockey season opened in Shannon with a match on the recreation reserve, in which the local team tried conclusions with Levin. C. Howe captained the visitors. Mori Tippler was captain of the Shannon team, which for most of the first spell played three men short. Mr C. H. Tudd ncted as referee. Shannon won the toss and started the game with the sun in their backs. Levin soon bad the ball close to the Shannon goal posts: a position which was almost immediately reversed. After ten minutes' play Smart got the first goal for Levin, ■uid in another ten minutes lie had q;ot another μ-oal. Towards the •nil of the first spell Jsovis got a »-oal for Shannon, the only score that the local team made. "When play was resumed the Levivites distinguished themselves by their excellent defence of their goal, and scored three more goals, of which Smart got one, (I. "Walton one, and Y. MacTndoe one. When lime was called the score stood:Levin 5, Shannon 1. There was no bowling or tennis oii Wednesday afternoon.
