LEVIN DEFEATS SHANNON
On Wednesday afternoon Shannon hockey team arrived in Levin decked in their warpaint of yellow and black, and brandished their clubs before r t)he teinp'ie of the local team. The local men sallied out and for the first half of the game hand things their own way. From a line-out immediate, ly after the bully-off, play moved I into Shannon's half, where Levin was given a free hit. For a while play remained round Shannon's goal. Shannon got through and worked to the ir opponents' end, but the ball was returned by 1 Howe. Shannon brought it back and wore saved lots of trouble by anothor free hit. The ball went behind. From tho bully-off Shannon pressed on and strongly attacked, and Smart had a few lively moments dofending his goal before Shannon were sent back to their own defence. Good play by Shannon staved off the trouble, and carried it to the other ond, and again Howe returned it, and from the attack that followed T. Tuohy scored Levin's first goal. Levin renewed the attack after the bullj r -off, and playing well Shannon occasionally carried the ball to the enemy's territory, and set up a good attack— stalled off by Martin, Field and Howe—and for a while play was up and down the field, until in a strong rush by Levin K. B roughton got Levin's second goal. Only now and again did Shannon get a respite, and a little later Winter put- up Levin's third goal. Later a free hit helped Shannon, but play remained in their half until half time, when the score was: Levin •'! goals, Shannon 0. J
In the second half Shannon did a great deal better. For the first few minutes "Levin attacked, and Tuohy scored their fourth'goal. Centre play followed the bully-off, until, in a rush by Levin, Winter scored their fifth and last goal. Shannon immediately attacked, and from a pass by Thompson 80. vis scored a goal for Shannon.
After this the play _was fairly even and Shannon held their own from this out, Bovis playing very well. Maclndoe. for Levin, played well, hut missed a good chance to score. Play was up and down a great deal. Shannon had a free hit, and setting up a good attach had Levin on the defensive. Levin held them off, and Smart and MacIndoe took the ball into Shannon's half, where the ball went behind. From fhis on, though Levin attacked once or twice, they were kept mainly on the defence, and when the whistle was blown play was in their half. The final scores were : Levin 5 goals, Shannon 1.
Shannon played we]], and with o little practice "will do a great deal bettor. For Levin, Winter, Field, Smart Howe, Martin and Macludoe played well. Mr It. S. Horn was referee, and Messrs D. Porteous and H. Judd line umpires.
