Horowhenua County Council.

At the monthly meeting of Ho- . i-owhenua County Council on Thursday Councillor Richards pre. sided, and there also were present Councillors John Kebbell, G. Watson, C A. Monk, H. Freeman, F. W. Venn and George Stephenson. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors J. Frouse and A. Drake. Regarding the loss of a horse near Otaki, through a washout near the bridge, Mr McKenzie asked the council for an allowance. On the motion of Councillor Freeman, seconded by Councillor Richaids, it was resolved that the sum of £5 be granted, without prejudice. It was resolved that Mr Home (Koputaroa) be informed that the work he asked for would be attended to after Easter. Mr A. A. Brown was given permission to remove scrub and take flax roots from the roadway near his flaxmill, at Paetawa, so as to minimise the present danger from fire On the motion of Councillor Monk seconded by Councillor "Watson, it was resolved: —"That under the Paetawa agreement notice In; served on adjoining owners to clean the south drain, and that the council's roadmen attend to that part for which the council are responsible."

Councillor Richards reposed that flax fibre was being carted along Foxton road from Levin end, also odd lots of green flax, and the wear resulting to the road was very marked. All the drays in use have wide tyres, but the paucity of metal put on the road in the beginning, added to its poor foundation, made the problem of keeping the road in order a very serious one for the "Wirokino riding. The County Engineer remarked that the road was spoilt in the beginning, through the big quantities of metal required for the further end being carted over the Lovin end. "No resolution was proposed. TENDERS. The tender of AV. J. Close, of Levin, for supply of metal to Ofaki-Tc Iloro ridings (at >5s Od per yard all round) was accepted, it was further decided that the lender of R. Southce be accepted for metalling Kingston road and all other roads to the north of Shannon: also that of R. I'-JJiP-pler for all roads south of Kingston road in the Tokrymaru riding.
