EVENTS IN SHANNON

It may interest our leaders to hear something of the work of Sister Allison, who is the missionary of (he Presbyterian Church amo'ngst tho Maoris of the KingCountry. The lady recently visited Shannon and gave an account of her work which is of a most varied character. It includes teaching, preaching, doctoring and burying- the dead. Bister Allison was in the King- Country during- the smallpox scare and she did all she could in helping to look after the sick. One of the most important parts of her work is teaching- the women to care for tlieir sink and little ones. Those who wish to aid her in her work can do so by forwarding contributions, not only in money, but also in outgrown clothes or second-hand garments that might be useful. The Rev. J. A. MoKenzie would J be glad to receive any such eontri|T butions. / The champion rink of bowlegs, (ralland, E. Butt, Knowles a fid Roach, will take part in the TValmerston North bowling toui ment. They left Shannon by Kfv.\\n oa Thursday night. i The annual meeting of ihjn Debating Society will be held i,*n the Mechanics Institute on Tuesday, April 21st, at 8 p.m. /
ANOTHER WEDDpXG. Another wedding of rjfciuch interest to Shannon peoples took place on Wednesday, Miss Maud Xewth, second daughter of Mi- M. Xewth, of Moutotfi, was married to Mr Stanley Pe|arce, of Foxton. The ceremony \y/is performed by the Rev. G. j. /Woodward, at All Saints' Churcl/i, Foxton, at 11.HO a.m. The Ipride was attired in white sills vyl-ith the usual veil surmounted?by a wreath of orange blossoms a/nd pearls. The dress was hand/somelv trimmed with lace and/caught up with a silver buckle: * She a lovely shower/bouquet. Miss Effie Xewth -sister of the bride—acted as bridesmaid, and one of Mr Pearce's broth/ers acted as best man. At thet conclusion of the ceremony Mr "Woodward presented the bride wjrt'li a handsomely bound prayor--1v))ok as a memento of the occasion. '\ large number of guests sat down to an excellent breakfast at the residence of the bride's parents: after which the happy couple left for Foxton en route to Wanganui. f There was a large number of hand- ] some presents, the gifts of Miss I Xewth's many friends.
