-From the Otaki Mail we cull the following items of interest: — There is a deal of opposition among local Maoris to the proposed visit of "King"' To ltata and his "prime ministers tc England. There will probably soon be a movement on foot in Otaki to establish the system of rating on unimproved value. It is stated that a motor bus will shortly be imported to Otaki for use in the town and district. During the hearing of a case of cruelty to animals at the last sitting of the S.M. Court, tlie Magistrate, who was shocked at the condition of the horse, said "the animal spoke for itself. A laugh was caused when a solicitor added tha • Manakau was fortunate in having a scriptural horse. In a horse case later there wae much conflicting evidence, and regret was expressed that tins animal could not speak for itself. Mr George Be van, of Pukeliou, is very ill with an attack of pneumonia, pleurisy, and other complaints. His many friends trust that ho will make a good and speedy recovery. The many friends of Mr A. Drake are very glad to hear of his progress towards recovery.
Much interest was evinced in the bowling match played at Otaki mi Saturday between the local team and two rinks from Newiown. In the forenoon H. Bright, Bills, Gooding, and Ferguson (skip) met FlyprcM-, Chitt-ey, TTnderwond and Sexton (skip). The game ended in a draw, OUiver, McKetfg, Smith and Satherley (skip) had an oasv win over PankliMi'sl-, ftallio, Trovor, and Pollock (skip), 30—13. In the affornoon Satherley's rink was badly beaten, and Otaki won in the ap;prepate by 83 to 79.
