After searching his pockets the detectives ordered him to remove his hoots, and this Mihaka did very gingerly, remarking that his foot was sore and requesting them not to touch it. The detectives were inexorable, and on feeling the "sore" foot found ten sovereigns. Mihaka was immediately arrested. At the Court he was remanded for a week.
