My "Sore" Feet.
[tEK PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland March : 3. James Queen travelled down W'airo'd river to Helensville on Sunnight, his cabin mate bein.y an elderly Maori named ALihaka. Next morning Queen found that £'60 had been taken from the pocket of tho trousers in which he slept. The .Maori was very syiuiietidj ftQd offered to lend him i'l. The police were informed, and Mihaka was interviewed. "When asked to show all the money he had he turned out of his pockets £2 12s lid and offered to submit to a search. After searching his pockets the detectives ordered him to remove his hoots, and this Mihaka did very gingerly, remarking that his foot was sore and requesting them not to touch it. The detectives were inexorable, and on feeling the "sore" foot found ten sovereigns. Mihaka was immediately arrested. At the Court he was remanded for a week.
