Levin Stock Sales
l'or yesterday's sale there was a very heavy yarding of stock of :i 11 classes, and it was 4.30 p.m. before the last pen was.sold. There was a keen demand for sheep and all classes changed hands. For thespecial entry of ewes from the State l (l arni there was good enquiry. Fat sheej) sold up to 18s 1 Id. Real good 2-tooth ewes went as high as 17s <Sd; others lis to 17s 3d. There was a good demand for fat cattle and fat cows xold from £6 10s to <£7. For store stock the demand was not so good, and bidding was slow. Several pens were passed by, and in others the seller had "to accept, a reduction on this price. There was a good yarding of pigs and the same, keen demand for tHem exited at the rates ruling last sale day. At the conclusion of the siock sales a few small lines of potatoes, apples and wheat were sold. Potatoes brought 6s a sack, wheat 17s (id (4-bushel bags), and apples (second grade) 1s to 2s per half case. ])ALGETY AND CO. LTD. ~ Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having held their usual fortnightly sale in their Levin yards on Friday, 27+h iust., when a good yarding of both sheep and cattle came forward. Sheep were in good demand and bidding at auction was keen; practically all lots changing hands under the hammer at prices well up to late rates. The quality of the yarding was good. The special entry of ewes on account of the State Fa 1711 in first-class order and keen competition took place on the different lines offered. Our principal sales were as under: On account of ihe State Farm, 2-tooth ewes 17s to 17s 3d; 4 and @-tooth ewes 17s (id: 0-year ewes 13s -Id. On account of other vendors: 2tooth ewes 15s lid to 10s 4d; s.lll. breeding ewes 13s 6d to 1.45; mixed 2-tooth (small) 12s sd; forward 2-tooth wethers 17s Id; fat lambs flight) 13s 4d; rape lambs 12s;' store lambs 8s 5d to 9s lid; cull lambs 5s 3d to 6s 9d. Cattle: Competition was not too keen and a dragging sale resulted. Some prices were as under: Store cows £3 to £4 Is; fat cows (light) £1 10s to £5: yearling steers £2 0s: weaners 18s to 28s; yearling dairy heifers £3 ss: empty heifers £-1 10s: 2 to steers £5 12s: medium dairy cows -£5.
