I —• — . (Jjy our liesident Representative). . Mr Mciiain is leaving shortly to rake up his duties at the Lower ilutt State School. He is to be congratulated on his promotion, but at the same time Manakau will feel his departure keenly. No better .sport ever lived here. A public meeting is to be held in the school on AVednesday evening to form a committee for a farewell function. The State School picnic will'be held on Friday, the 20th inst., in Manakau. A farewell "social" to Mr and Mrs D. Brett, who are leaving for Wellington, will take place on Saturday, the 14th inst. A euchre party and dance will be held in the . Town Hall on Thursday next, to raise funds for the school picnic. It is to be hoped that everyone who is fond of a game of euchre or a dance will attend. ■ The wedding took place at Otaki on Thursday morning of two well-known Manakau residents—Miss Kate Karlie and Mr Bert Gleeson. Mr and Mrs Gleeson left on Friday for their honeymoon in the South Island. A party of youths armed with tins and baths gave them a "rally' , on Thursday night, and were treated right royally by Mr Gleeson. Mr Frank Lowry, second assistant at the cheese factory, has been notified of his transfer to the Newman factory.
