The magistrate acquitted the Executive , of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers on a charge of unlawful assembly on the ground that the term "enclosed space" did not apply,to riots. When the Zulus saw the burghers leaving Middleburg for the " Hand, emissaries were sent to Zululand, to report that the time was opportune for a revolt, as the whites wore warring against each other. The .emissaries were arrested befo# reaching Zululand. The evidence shows tKat they intended to murder the only whites remaining in the vicinity. . The Government sent a large patrol to Middleburg, warning the Villus that at the first signs of violence the offenders would be shot.
