Manakau Notes
The cheese factory consigned one hundred and h'fty 801b crates of- cheese -to Wellington on Saturday. A case oJ benzine belonging to Mr Andrew did the disappearing trick one night quite recently. A large crowd attended the pictures on Monday night. Mr Bevan gave all the public school children free passes to the pictures. The price of pigs still soars high ; slips or suckers arc selling at £1 a piece. There can't be much made at that price, but it is decidedly better than throwing the skim-milk and whey along the roadside and causing a bad smell, besides killing the grass. "When a motor car was being driven from Otaki on Friday night one of the numerous horses at present grazing oiv the road, quietly walked across the road in front''of the car. The driver jammed the brakes on, but one of the head-lights was bent. Those horses are a real pest: people driving or cycling have .to drive them oil! the''road before they can pass; nothing short of half, a brick will sli'ifl them. A ranger might, but he never gets as far as Manakau.
