THE POSITION IN SYDNEY. [electric telegraph, copyright.'l [per press association.] (Received This Day, 8.15 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. The Secretary of Iho Wharf Labourers' Union declared that whether they wanted to or not, those now on strike will have to see it through. "So far as his union is concerned," ho said, "New Zealand is cut oil' the map as far as cargo trade witli Sydney is concerned. If the other Australian ports don't take similar action, well I'm a Dutchman. We are all waterside workers, and the Federation at Melbourne can be relied upon to show loyalty io fellow unionists." The Home liner Athenic returned to the Glasgow wharf at 10 o'clock this morning, and the Arbitration unionists, who slept on the vessel last night, resumed loading operations. Good Avork Avas done.
Amongst the applications for membership of the new union are stated to be several members from the old union.
The march of the mounted and foot special constables to guard the Avharves was not accompanied by any serious demonstrations.
T\venty men arrived from Feilding district to-day, to join the new union.
The AYillochra, Moana and Maunganui all are alongside the wharves, but no attempt was made to work them this morning.
A large .number of local special constables, on foot, also are assisting to guard the wharves.
In the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr Riddel I, S.M., TCdmond Barlow, previously convicted of theft, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for having; thrown stones at the special constables. Thomas Rodgers, for obscene language, and Patrick Daly, on a similar charge, Avere both sentenced to fourteen day's imprisonment, while several others were remanded on bail of £'80. The bail was increased to £1.00 in the case of a man alleged to have been prominent in the riot in front of AYhitcomhe and Tombs's establishment.
GISBORNE DECLINES TO JOIN. Gisbome, This Day. The local watersiders, at the ordinary monthly mceling, considered a- wire from Mr W. T. Young, asking them to take a holiday meeting, and unanimously declined to accede to the request. It was decided to continue under the present agreement, which is registered under the Arbitration Act. STRIKE AT AUCKLAND. Auckland. This Day. All the Auckland Exhibition workmen downed tools this morning, alleging that the "special" constables were not observing the undertaking to keep away from the vicinity, but were grazing tlVfa'r horses there.
