The large residence of Theadoro McKenna (brother of the Home Secretary) at Bramshott was fired by suffragettes and totally destroyed. The residence was empty. RAILWAY TROUBLES. There have been nine accidents this year mostly due to errors in signalling and six companies arc involved. Somepcrsons attribute the accidents to the new control system now in geueral operation, as the change tends to relieve the signalmen from direct responsiblity and makes it increasingly difficult to keep trace of the train. It is stated that many signalmen live in dailv dread of disaster. Some of Ihe newspapers and railwaymeii are demanding a special piHjuiry. Berlin, October 'J7. SUCCKSSIOX SETTLED. It is unlikely that it will be known for a week who is elected President. A curious feature of the election is that Huerta, although not a candidate,- secured a heavy vote in many districts, particularly Veracruz. Diaz did no exercise the franchise and did not participate, as erronouously announced in a meeting of candidates under Huerta's direction when each decided to abide by the. result. Diaz reports himself as practically a prisoner and remains at Yorasruz.

The steamer Lealonic has been docked at Liverpool. When 1.72 miles east of Belle Isle, the lookout sighted a huge iceberg in the fog-. The vessel's lielin was ported and the engines reversed, as a result of which the vessel jKissed the iceberg at a few yards distance. Larkin has been found guilty of uttering seditious words, and sentenced to seven months' imprisonment, lie challenged several jurymen on the ground that they were prejudiced, and others were chosen.
