HOCKEY
SO I-Til (2) v. NORTH (1). Teams representing North and South respectively met at Levin yesterday lo content supremacy in the llorowhenua Hockey Association. A fast and interes'ting game resulted, with the final issue doubtful throughout. The southerners had established a lead of two goals against one some twenty minutes before the call of time, bul they were hard pressed in the final stages, and the northerners narrowly missed evening up tbe scores on three separate occasions, good defence by Howe and Horn contributing materially to beat off ibe attack. One stirring , counter attack enlivened the concluding stages -a breakaway by the southerners which took play from end to end and finished with Smart shootinp' at goal, but sending the ball over the centre of the net instead of into it. The respective scorers were Smart and Ton Winiata for the southerners, and Bovis for the northerners. The referees were Messrs U.S. Horn and E. W. •T. Smith, respectively.
