Cycling and Motoring Notes.
4 l'Vcmi the Diinlop Kubber Co., of Australasia, for the week ending August HOth, IDI -J. * * * »• # J A very fine response has been made by IVew South Wales in connection with the forthcoming road race from (joulburii to Sydney, a distance of about 1-JO miles. All told 210 riders have nominated, and given fine weather a" big field should face the starter on Saturday, September' Gth. This event will be the longest amateur road race yet held in Australia. One of the objects in promoting the contest is to improve and encourage long distance amateur road racing with a view to sending Australian representatives to Berlin in 1916, to take part in the. 150 miles Olympic road race. Ii will he interesting to compare the ■ performances in the forthcoming test with those accomplished by cash riders in-the many contests held over the same course by the Dunlop Rubber Company when the Goulburn-Sydney was one of the Inter-state tests for the Warrnam--8001. The record for the course is Ghrs lOmins Hlsccs standing to the -credit of the Victorian crack, Don Kirkham.
While the actual date of the next Interstate reliability motor car contest between Melbourne and Sydney has not yet been definitely settled, it is almost certain that the route will be as mentioned, viz., Melbourne to Wangaratta (140£ miles) on the first day; Wangaratta to Gundagai (164| miles) on the second day; Gudagai to Moss Vale (104! miles) on the third day); and Moss Yale via Nowra to Sydney (144 A miles) on tile fourth day, making a total of 020| miles. This course will bo a big improvement from a scenic point of viow upon the last run, for , the road across the Kangaroo Valley, botwoen Moss Vale and Nowra and then via Bulli to Sydney, passes through some of the most picturesque country in Now South
Wales. Tw hill climbs will probably form part of the test, one on the first clay up a 'two miles climb known as "Pretty Sally," near AVallan (Via.) and'the other up the Bulli Pass (N.JS.W.j on the concluding day. These climbs will afford an interesting test as lo the relative efficiency of (lie cars on the first day whilst the cars are tuned up, and again on the concluding day of the long Inter-state run. The rules and conditions of the test are now being determined by the join sporting committees of the automobile clubs of N.S.W. and of Victoria.
