Tho firo originated through tho upsetting of a kerosene lamp in a bedroom of « five-roomed house, occupied by V. "Walsh iand owned by Goo. Barber. The flames fjuickly spread, and the whole of tho contents were destroyed. The flames spread to an adjoining seven-roomed house, occupied by Alex Ro.ss and owned by A. K. Spoil's. A quantity of effects were saved. The easterly wind saved the adjoining house and Masonic Hall. Thi.s town docs not possess a water supply or i fire-fighting appliances, otherwise the firo could have Leon confined to one house. 'Insurances: Harbor's house £200 in the .State Office; effects £75 in tho United Office; Speir's 'house £'100 in tho State Office; effects L2oo in the Norwich Union Office. Tho business premises of Bauekliain mid Charles, grocers, wore broken into either on Saturday or last night, and a quantity of tobacco stolon. A desk was broken open and tho drawers rifled, but Saturday's takings had been removed by tho owners on Saturday night. SOUNDS .FAMILIAR.. HAMILTON, This Day.
