EVENTS IN SHANNON (Chronicled by Our Resident do preventative). VEX BEDE'S CONCERT. A concert and dance in aid A funds for dealing off the debt on the Veil Bede's Vicarage was the function which attracted «i considerable crowd at tlio Druids' Hall on Friday night. The Dramatic Society's orchestra, under leadership of .Miss Olive Laurvig. contributed an overture, and the same 'ady provided the dance music with her usual ability. After an openwig song by Mr Grovor. Mkses Beryl and Connie Remington sang "Buy My Hoses'' sweetly and with expression. Mr Kenneth Aitken recited "The Land of the Alight Have Been," and won.au encore which he answered with "Devil May Care." His clear enunciation and emphasis deserve mention. Mr E. .X. l,anehe.ster followed with a comic sung. '•I've Just Sold Out,' , which the audience encored. Mrs Singing of "The Three Fishers" was the next item. It was sung well and with much good feeling. A selected song. (> My Mammy."' was followed by a comic item by Mrs .lean Mel'Tarland. from the Highlands. Miss McDonald sang a sweet little ballad. A pianoforte .selection, in which Mrs K .0. Jones displayed her musical ability, opened the second part, and was encored. .Miss Heryl Remington sang '-The Dawn." Uttlo Miss Ethel .Jones's recitation won much applause. Mr I'ringle sang '-The Old Bachelor,'' Miss Connie Remington sang "Oljstmatioif' to the accompaniment of the Hev. J. A. McKenzie. Mr Kennith Aitken gave another monologue very effectively. Mr |<}. X. Manchester, comic song in Highland costume, elicited much inorrimrnt. The Veil. Archdeacon Coinins read a telegram from tin Vicar, who is taking a .short holiday in Auckland, expressing regret at his absence, and wishing all present n happy evening. Mr Coinins thanked all who had contributed to the success of tlio entertainment. A humorous sketch. ''Dear Departed, ' in which the parts were sustained by Mrs Hunt, Misses M. Hughes and M. Woodmass. Messrs Jones. Tilling and Hunt, concluded the entertainment.
