Horowhenua County Council.

Details of applications made to the Horowhenua County Council today are set out in another column of to-day's Chronicle. Particulars of decisions come to are set out below. The meeting was presided over by Councillor G. X. Stephenson, the other members present being Councillors H. J. Richards, John Kebhell, James Prouse. P. W. Venn, 0. A. Monk, G. Watson. A. W. Skerman. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Freeman. Messrs W. G. Adkin and L. C Kay wrote regarding the urgent need for a bridge across the Oban river, near Gladstone road, and suggesting that a subsidy of £100 might ho made hy the County Council, as an addition to the subsidy to be given by the Levin Borough Council. Tho county engineer has estimated Flic cost of the proposed bridge at some CliOO, and it is hoped that this estimate will not he exceeded. It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Kebbell. seconded by Councillor Prouse. "That the clerk take the necessary steps to raise a loan for the estimated amount of erecting a bridge over the Ohau River. the special district over which such loan is to he raised to consist of the properties of Messrs Adkin and Kay

--provided that an estimate of the cost of the bridge lie first obtained, and that the Borough Council of Levin he approached for a subsidy toward it."

Other resolutions were come to as follows:—-

Prouse—Richards: That permission be granted to the Levin Borough Council to lay pipes down in Horowhenua West road*, in terms of application.

Monk-Watson: That Mr N. Campbell be given notice that unless the road between Bannatyne's lower boundary and Powell's bridge he put in order with twenty-one days from date, this council will pass a resolution ceasing iall heavy traffic on the said piece of road. Regarding Mr Harper's application for a culvert, it was decided te replv that the cost was provided for in the estimates for 1013-14.

Monk.--Watson: Tliat tlio resolution passed nt last, mooting with reference to '.Mr Ellis's fence iat Mangaono road. To Horo, apply to C J. Sisson's fence on tho same road, providing that tlie fence is at present on its proper boundary, and is in any way interfered with V: tho council in their road formation.

Venn-Stephenson : That so .soon as the present metal contract on the Kingston road is finished, and the road put in decent order, applications from residents on or near the road he called for, for a person willing in undertake tho duties of keeping the said road in order to the satisfaction of-our inspector, labour >n|y, with the use. when nocossarv. >f the small grader for filling in vhool ruts.

Stephenson-Venn : That the ratepavers owning land on tho south side of Stout street. Shannon, between Clapm.au and "Wliitaker streets, he permitted to erect their fence fifteen feet on Stout street, providing the whole distance is done at one time, and such fence shall remain during the pleasure of the council. Venn—-'Ricliards: That any ratepayers desirous of constructing footpaths fronting their properties other than those provided by the council will he assisted to the extent of 25 per cent of the cost, providing plans and specifications and cost are approved of by the county inspector and are work finally passed hy him.

Skerman-AVatson : That the Otaki Road Board he asked to take stops to have the drain .along the Rahui Road alongside the racecourse fence cleaned out.

Venn—Stephenson : That for the current year a sanitary rate he struck over the area at present served hy the contractor within Shannon township.

Venn—Stephenson: Tliat -£o0 he put upon the current year's estimates for regnading work on Albert road. Tokomnru, and separate tenders called for each of the two worse places: should the tenders be reasonable hut exceed the ahovc amount and the settlors he willing to advance for one year the difference hoth jobs be put in hand at once: otherwise the larger deviation V proeceded with this year, and the smaller one next year.

"Watson—Monk: That before paying over the balance due on completion of the Ngatiawa bridge, the county clerk obtain legal advice as to who is entitled to same.

Kehbell—Richards: That the seal of the council be affixed to tho con sent to tho transfer of the Fresh Food and Tee Company's lease at Kuku. to James MoLellan.

Mr P. R. Palmes, Levin, asked that a hriidgo in front of his property lie shifted a few chains, to a more suitable .site. Tin's request will he finally dealt with next year, "'hen the question of renewing the bridge conies up for decision.
