WELLINGTON. April l>3. Indications (12 noon to-day) are for northerly moderate to strong wind* prevailing and freshening at times. Expect dull weather with much mist and fog in parts, with weather clouding over for rain later. The barometer is falling.

At the Christchurcli competitions Mr Byron Brown won the sightreading test, and is to be recalled with two others in the Miltoniaii recitation. Ho was placed fourth in the oratorical display. A record price for ewes sold at Burnside was obtained on a recent Wednesday.. This was for a very prime ewe forwarded by Mr J. Grant (Incliome) which brought 41s. Another ewe sent by the same owner sold for 375.

A novel cargo is likely to ho carried by the timber schooner Bonecia from Duuedin to the Pacific Coast of America. Her agents aro buying up empty iron tanks, which presumably are worth more there than in New Zealand.
