The following items of local interest are culled from the Otaki Mail :■-- The new Otaki Mail printing house, just completed, is a welcome addition to the business places of Otaki town, and a pleasing sign of the progress of the place. With the exception of the front, it is entirely of brick, having the distinction < f heing tlie first brick business place in the town. In the front are two handsome shops, both having plateglass windows, with fine plate-glass-doors also. The larger of the shops, loft by 12ft.. is to he used as a public office for tho Otaki Mail, and also as a stationer's shop, thus affording ample space for the wide range of stationery that tho proprietor intends to carry. The other shop. 13ft by 12ft. together with a small room at the rear, is to let. At a general meeting of the Ota/ki Maori Racing Club on Saturday, ;t was decided to give no less than £2000 in stakes at the coming June meeting, the value of the Cup to be £400, while tho big money on the second day will be £250. At present the course and appointment are receiving much attention from the caretaker. Saturday morning's rain did not deter several bowlers from attending tho local green during the afternoon •Some interesting games wero played, the most exciting, perhaps, being that in which W. H. Simsox heat one of tho leading players, viz., Allan Sathorley. Tho former, with a handicap of 7, won by ten points, "53--13. He put in some fine play, and tho win was well deserved. W Hartill and F. Beaumont had an exciting game, the former winning on the last head by one point. 22—21. Thomson and Ollivcr wero in good form, and secured a win from 11. Booth and D. Noble. 27—20. This game was also won on tho last head. one of the last bowls sent along dislodging tho ball of tlie latter pair that was "the shot." On Wednesday next several interesting games will bo played. Wo regret to hear that Mr Walter Judd, of Foatherston (late of Otaki) hns been very unwell again, and it has been deemed expedient for him to undergo an operation, which -.vil! bo performed at Wellington, probably to-monw< "%;,

H: Hill, of Otaki, met tvi-.r an unfortunate accident yesterday While leaving her homo, sho slipped from a board', which had become slippery with the rain, and fell wy heavily, spraining both ankles. i t is feared she will bo unable to gel about for some time.
