EVENTS IN SHANNON
(Chronicled by Our Resident Representative). On Thursday the Ladies' Guild of the Methodist Church met at Mrs Carter's residence. Mrs Judd, on behalf of the Guild, presented Mrs Murdoch with a volume of Whittier's poems and an autograph album, as a parting gift. Mrs Murdoch acknowledged the gift and expressed her regret at leaving her "many friends in Shannon. At the meeting of tho Druids on Thursday evening, .13ro. E. W. Sutton, A.D., presided. Two new members were initiated into tho mysteries of Druidism. Bros. Sutton, Gardner and Tilling wero appointed a committee to make ail arrangements in connection with thi ritual competition. Bro. Cutler, l'.A. of the Grand Lodge, has promised a handsome trophy for this competition. Some improvement might lie made in the small gate at the entrance to the recreation grounds. Just now it is an admirablo contrivance for letting Mr Carter's sheep out and anybody's horses in. Tho 'hildren who recreate on the ground ire much better hands at opening the gate than shutting it, and the latch does not hold well. Perhaps the County Council might see their way to put up a turnstile. While ')n this subject of the recreation ground, it may be noted that the Rev. J. A. McKenzie recently took exception in one of liis sermons to the Sunday cricket matches which have recently been played there.
