The Chronicle, LEVIN: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1912. FARMERS' CO-OPERATION.
An avenue wherein fanners may act i'or inut iiil benefit was initio*ted. bv the Ait id and provincial branch 'oi the iv.-w Zealand Jbariiieru' Union iu the. wuiV! of a circular letter to oilier ijra.iCiii.3. In this coniniiiuication ihe secretary <>t the Aue.kland 'bi'Miicli ;u;kcd fur reports us to the prospects of main crops of grain iu various agricultural cGiitic.>. J.no idea of the northern union is to supply its branch members witli a summary of all information gathered in this way; and, also, by way of "e----turn, to obtain from its numerous sub-unions in the Auckland provinces reports for circulation amongst the southern union branches. '.ibe proposal strikes us as being an -,:x----celieut one. By atfording information of this kind the unions will Le able to give the farmer collectively an unbiased ami helpful indication of the market conditions which will be of assistance both to buyers and sellers. An illustration of this fact was afforded when the proposal was discussed at Palmerston North. it was remarked by delegates that the grain grown in that district was iot enough to leave any exportable margin, but that there was a good demand in the district for maize for stock feeding purposes. No doubt the proposal of the northern union could be discussed with individual and general profit to the Levin, Shannon and Otaki branches of the anion.
