THE TEMPERANCE CAUSE

.Sir,—My previous letter foreshadowed the avalanche of lies and prevarication that the Trade would indulge in. has been verified, and they are endeavouring to out Herod their previous periodical Herodian tirade. A trade that resorts to such questionable expedients, must of itself acknowledge it is in a poor way, or past redemption, and there is only one possible way of rofornia- ; tion, and that is by prohibition. ■ This licensed trade errs greatly, . \v\ion it considers it no sacrilege or ■ blasphemy to bring in to save its face, those who are held in lowly !■ but also the highest reverence I through all Christendom. If ever there was the severest interpretation of , Scriptural dictum of "sufficient to tho day is the evil thereof." the finger points witlreringly at the traffic, and all associated with _ ite works. When the cause of "righteousness and truth" becomes assailed by sinners against their souls, know ye not that the Kingdom of Heaven is 'being affronted, calling for prompt chastisement. The Temperance movement is not jtbe march of bigots, but the advance of His Kingdom upon earth, (the puny hands of the creature or [creatures of a day are actually dar- | ing (in their blindness of serving Mammon) the endeavour to thwart the will of their Creator. Cannot the signs of tho times be read in the upheaval or unrest, that prevails today among the nations. What is the cause "of it all?
