WAKE UP SHANNON. REPLY TO "OBSERVER."

To the Editor iSir. —fn rending "Observer's" lottor T thought at the time that he did not make such a deep study of politics as T do; surely lie knows that since tlio present Liberal and Lahour Government came into power that large holdings have been out down considerably, and that the Graduated Land Tax is a severe nen-nilt-y. As .1 stated in my last if tHio Opposition had been in power since IS9I New Zealand would liaA'e consisted of a few huge sheep stations. Surely he cannot assert- that this now party which falls itself the Party, one of mushroom existence, is going to step in and solve the land r|uestion and attain the Millenium : the only party that is pleasing the "common people" as lie terms them (I suppose he means the man that wants a few acres), and that is cutting down the large estates, and that will attain their goal in the end, is the present Government. And again, surely H Observer' 'lias read lately where the_ present Government has practically knocked on the head land speculation: i.e., syndicates buying up to sell again at a profit, .and that it is their <aim to burst up all monopolies and "rings." The high cost of living is caused through "rings." and it is the deadliest foe with which the present Government is combating in order to eradicate and it will come about After the elections, too, and by "Mr Ward's painkiller," not Messrs TCeardon and Robertson's. The present Government has done its best in tihe interests of the masses wanting land, and T suppose "Observer's" cry is that the high cost of living to the worker is caused through the land. No, workers, it is your cry for increased Wflges, together with these "''rings and combines" with which the oresent Government are wrestling, and will, until such a thing cannot exist. Let "'Observer" support the present Government at the elections and give them a chance to pursue this policy, and many other ones in the interests of the "workers" ; and like myself and thousands of others, when we will see these things consumated' (as not a doubt about it t!:iey will he) then will he say :''"Well, T did a wise thing when T voted for Mr Field in 1911."—Tours, etc..
