STAKIO MOXEY TO BE OX MOKE

EQUITABLY BASIS

At the annual nieeiting ol' the Manawatu Riacing Club, held, on Friday night, Mr R. S. Abraham brought up a question that has lor some time past been a subject for discussion among racing men, notonly in this dominion, but in Australia, namely, tho unequal division of stake money between placed ih'orsps.

Mr Abraham said that it was a subject he had given a lot of .attention to, and he was certainly of opinion that there should be ft more equal allocation of prize money than IHMV. Very frequently tho top \\Vight in a race would put up a most meritorious performance, and in running say, third, would put up a much better performance than a light-weighted winner, and yet tho top weight would secure but a beggarly pittance of the total stake. With the object of putting matters on a more equitable, basis he moved that it be a recommendation to the committee to allocate stakes in the proportion of l-7ths to the first horse, 2-7ths to the second, and l-7tih to tho third.—The motion was seconded by Mr McKewen and carried, but the opinion was expressed bv the meeting that the experiment .should be tried with one or two races for a. start, rather than with tllie whole- programme.
