The German Paper Industry.
Since the new commercial treaties came into force with Germany the German paper industry has never ceased (says Ivnhlow's) ti> cumphn'n of the increased difficulties put in the way of : its export, and more especially the difficulties in connection with the United Kingdom. The latter, it says, has now gained ait advantage because the German Customs tariff puts dyjties on the raw materials for paper manufacture, while the United Kingdom obtains these materials duty free. In consequence, an exceptionally .sharp competition exists with the British industry working under more favourable conditions. Several German (inns have, as a result, abandoned their trade with the United Kingdom altogether, or at least considerahlv reduced it.
